Animated sequences for Arte prime time documentary produced by Bellota Films and directed by Marie Thiry
A story rooted in our home region of the Basque Country and supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
In 1609, an inquisitorial judge named Pierre de Lancre was sent to the Basque country, where 80 people were executed on the basis of unsubstantiated rumors... “Witches, Chronicle of a massacre” dusts off and questions the dark hours of a violent past, and sheds new light on our current struggles for equality and justice.
Through a large-scale film aimed at a wide audience, the unprecedented deciphering of this affair questions the mechanisms that led to these persecutions, which are still the subject of much debate among historians today.
