Historical animated short film in development, written and directed by Théophile Lefebvre
1921. Le Crotoy. René Caudron, disheartened and weary, struggles to keep his aviation school from shutting down. Just as hope seems lost, a determined young African-American woman named Bessie Coleman arrives, intent on becoming the first Black woman pilot in history.
As René reflects on his life, he retraces the extraordinary journey he shared with his brother Gaston—a journey that helped revolutionize aviation, from the invention of the seaplane to groundbreaking feats of aerial exploration.
His life has been shaped by remarkable achievements, but also shadowed by tragedy.
For one evening, René tries to silence his inner demons and revisits the path that led him to the skies—a passion he is now ready to pass on to Bessie.
Through the story of the Caudron and Bessie Coleman, pioneers of aviation, Fireflies retraces a history of our humanity. The story of brothers who tear each other apart for the same dream, and a woman who is willing to do anything to reach her own goal.
Aviation, an emancipatory dream of the early industrial era, questions the present. In a society that is constantly undergoing unprecedented technological upheavals, how can we keep control of our inventions ?
